Mr. and Mrs. Smith【

American Gangster【

Troy【

The Notebook【

3:10 to Yuma【

(The Quick and the Dead)中剛到好萊塢拍片時青春無敵的羅素克洛。

The Prestige【

The Holiday【

Enchanted【

The Devil Wears Prada【穿著Prada的惡魔】

The Good Shepherd【

The Bourne Ultimatum【

Lions For Lambs【

Rambo 4

CSI, My Bible

One of my coworkers asked me how I got away from bad mood. “Well, I watch movies and TV drama series, go biking, if possible, or keep a diary, “ I replied.“Do those always work?” She asked.

“At least they work well for me, so far, most of the time.” I said. Then she shared her spiritual therapy with me. She invited me to a ritual/ceremony she went to when she was dejected. I refused her politely. In fact, for me, an episode of CSI will do better. I am sure of it.

‧A Bible That Inspires Me

One day I came home with a sense of inability and emptiness from work. I didn’t know what I could do to make the situation better. That night, a case in my favorite TV show, CSI, made no progress, either. They didn't get a single lead yet after a hard day's working.

“I don't even know the witness, the DNA, the murder weapon, the cause of death.”

“It's always good to know what you don’t know.”

All of a sudden, my mind was purged from the uncertainty of my duty. I tagged the sentence on the desktop of my computer right away. What a great comfort it is! For me, at that moment, it IS the Bible, which inspires me with a witty sentence.

‧ Look At Things In A Different Way

The scientists believe in science, solving cases by scientific methods. I am way too romantic to agree with those scientists on many things in life. However, I do need some balance somehow. Here is a case emphasize the perspective of, not goodness and evilness, not victims and murderers, but human nature, the most important and fundamental issue of all.

The story began in an airplane in its flight high up in the sky. A guy was found dead in the cabin before the plane landed. All the passengers on that plane became suspects. They were detained and interrogated in the airport. I shall leave the ending for you to watch by yourselves. It ended up with a controversy.

After the case was closed, those scientists had a small talk about this. Several of the team members voted for the passengers who were trying to protect themselves in the air. They believed that they themselves would have done the same thing if they were on the plane. They thought that people are very vulnerable high above in the sky, let alone those who face the hazard situation like that.

When being asked for opinion, Grissom, the experienced leader of the team gave his answer from a different point of view.

“What do you think, Grissom?” They asked.

“It's not about what you think or what I think. Everybody tried thinking from the passengers’ perspective. Why don't we think from the victim's? If there had been anyone, anyone that cared about what he needed, it could have ended up in a different way.”

Then it followed an unusual silence instead of any conversation. That is one of my favorite endings of a story.

‧ Be Professional

Sara is a female member who joined the team lately. Her hobby is reading law books and listening to police channels. One night, she stayed up late in the office, trying to find out the name of one woman, who had been in a coma for a long time.

After an exchange of conversation, Grissom noticed her devotion of time and passion to the job. As a partner and someone who cared, he gave her some advice.

“You need a REAL hobby to cope with these. You need to let it go, or you'll spend all your time trying to help those you cannot help. You'll burn out.”

I was impressed by those words. Sometimes I took my job too personal. It's a job, and I have a life to live. How can I do my job well, with both passion and reason? That's the everlasting question I will be pondering for a lifetime.

To sum up, people go to church or attend a ritual whenever they need guidance, and I watch CSI.People get inspired from the Bible or a saint's lecture, and I get catharsis from the lines in scripts.

《A Good Year》For Good

This is a story about a man (happen to be played by Russell Crowe) who learns to enjoy the beauty of life. To be rich and successful doesn't equal to enjoy oneself in life. Most people cannot tell the difference. I think that's what the movie is all about.

To begin with, this guy is depicted, in this film, not an everyman, but a successful businessman who excels at the investment in stock market. In a sense, to have a "good year" means that you have to be rich enough in the first place. Although he is rich and powerful, he is not a lovable guy at all. Some critics say that he is a "soulless miser." I am not sure whether he is mean about money or not, but I do know that he doesn't care a bit about others. The only thing he cares about is himself. People around him rely on his talent for making a fortune. However, sad to say, they don't really like him that much. Originally, he can live with that, with great self-confidence, until he inherits a vineyard from his uncle. That's how the story begins. I think this is a film that every "man" will like. The wine, the women, the scenery are men's favorite, I suppose. An investment consultant I met in the chat room replies that what he needs is, not only a good year, but a good decade. That's true. And I believe that it can be a good centenary, as long as you have been experiencing "the" good one.■

From A Music Video to Russell Crowe

I visit "30 Odd Foot of Grunts" website today. That is Russell Crowe's band. I like him a lot as an actor.

I found some links to their movie videos, and I happily tried to link them one by one. To my surprise, the movie video of the song, "Sail Those Same Oceans", was shot on the same ship that was in the movie "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World." That was very convenient, wasn't it? It’s too convenient, actually. In the video, Crowe wears the outfit of the captain, Jack Aubrey, and performs on the magnificent replica ship, Rose, a mid-eighteenth century Royal Navy frigate, with the other members of his band. What a privilege! It just doesn't happen everyday. It must be thanks to Crowe, who played the leading role in the film.I noticed this remarkable actor in the film, Gladiator. This man was born with talent for acting. I talked to myself. He won an Oscar as best leading actor in that year. I considered it an affirmation declaring his endeavors as a reward. And he is deserving of that. Of course, "Russell Crowe" today is not built in one day. He had his rough days. Now he is famous. He has got the power to do whatever he wants. That's why he can be a captain, a boxer, a mathematician, a military expert, and a investment expert in the world of film, and on the other hand, support his band, have his own rangeland, and keep being himself in the real world. As a fan, I am sincerely looking forward to, not another altercation, but a great movie.

Friends

This is my favorite TV show so far. There are six of them: Monica, Rachael, Phoebe, Ross, Joey, and Chandler. Each of them has different personality, and all of them are fun and interesting.

I like the show because it relaxes me a lot. It always makes me laugh. I, alone, sitting on the sofa in the living room, can’t help but laughing out loud for the entire hour as long as the show is on.

I really need a good laugh
.■

Charmed

I like stories about witches.

I remember there’s a TV show about witches named "Charmed" available on cable in Taiwan years ago. (Actually, it’s still showing now.)

It's about three witches living together, sharing belief, solving problems, and mending sisterhood. The tricky thing is that they have totally different personalities and different powers, but they have to beat all the evils they meet in collaboration with each other.

Witches have order, power, and tradition.

Sometimes I wish myself could be a witch. They have rules to follow.

Speaking of the rules, I’m sure I’ve got some.

I make them and then I break them.■

Under the Tuscan Sun

Once again here comes another romance comedy Under the Tuscan Sun.

Life is friendly and hopeful basically. If you live earnestly and sincerely enough, you’ll get your reward. Remember? The opportunities keep coming and life can always begins in a new city or even a new country. This time, the female writer restarts her life in Tuscan, Italy, alone right after she divorced her unfaithful husband.

I find myself quite fond of those "start afresh" stories. This film is not my favorite one, but it’s enjoyable. The music is great, the atmosphere is delightful, the landscape is splendid, and Diane Lane is gorgeous. You can start your life again right after you finish the movie.

When God close a door, the only way we can open another door for ourselves is to live strenuously, or to see a movie like this

Rouge

... It is true that people shall live in kindness, and it will bring more kindness in life. However, this film has got more than that. ...

My favorite movie so far is "Rouge," directed by Kieslowski, one of the greatest directors in the world. The movie always makes me feel warm and hopeful. When I feel dejected, I watch it. I also enjoy the movie soundtrack. It makes me feel purged.

It's about love, I believe, at the basic and ultimate level. For me, it's about the attitude how you face your daily life and how you treat the people you meet and things that happen to you everyday.

It is true that people shall live in kindness, and it will bring more kindness in life. However, this film has got more than that. Life is, more philosophically, interwoven. Something you did, with or without intention, has something to do with somebody else's life. Sometimes, a stranger could change your life. You might not notice that, but it is happening in every second. This is what impresses me most in this film.

The college girl as well as a part-time model in the story is beautiful, innocent, caring, and willing to give and share. What a perfect characterization! For once She had the chance to perceive the dark side of humanity thanks to the retired judge, who was betrayed by his fiancee and was hurt so deeply that he wouldn't believe in justice since then. Because of an accident, she came into his life and brought back the passion for life to him. He realized that justice does exist and fair judgment is possible -- on the basis of love.

Amazingly the mutual affection in a way makes their attitudes toward life totally different. She finally makes up her mind to take a trip by ship, leaving her boyfriend, who is always on the other side of the telephone. And he stops wiretapping his neighbors and punishing himself. He walks out of the door and those walls that he has built for himself for years. How amazing! And now the new life begins, and the new pal awaits.

Just be nice and gentle to those who pass you by on the street every single day. You could be connected anytime with anyone of them.

The Pianist

The Jews have never been popular. They were expelled from their own residence, segregated behind the ghetto walls, and killed in the gas chambers and the crematoriums.

After I saw the movie, I got on line right away, trying to find the reason why Hitler hated the Jews so much. I wondered how and why all the pogroms and persecution could be imposed on a people. The Jews have never been popular. They were expelled from their own residence, segregated behind the ghetto walls, and killed in the gas chambers and the crematoriums.Every single man deserves respect and dignity, let alone a race. As far as I know, thousands of famous and talented people are Jews: Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates, Kenny G., Albert Einstein, and so on. (Correct me if I made mistakes) People have never deny the talent they have just because they are Jews. The main problem is the religion, some kind of power wrestling, I believe. The Jews was never gratifying since the day Christian existed. Since the very beginning of the human history, they have been monotheists. They have their own God, rabbis, and synagogues. They reject the idolatry of the Greek, the emperor worship of the Romans, and Christianity, the overwhelming and unique official religion in Europe at that time even till now.As for those Palestinians who are regarded as terrorists all the time, they are merely ordinary people striving for their own land. They are, in a way, the victims of historical misfortune. At least in the beginning, I believe. However, after all this, still, I can't understand why Hitler hated the Jews so much. I cannot accept any excuses for what he had done. Seeing a movie like this reminds me of the unbelievable human stupidity. It should not and will not be forgotten forever.Due to the essentially sensitive condition of the issue. if there are any improper or mistaken statements in this article, please forgive my ignorance and help me get back to the right track. The friends who read this article and I myself will be grateful for your kindness.

The Interpreter

... an interpreter and a cop, a series of unknown secrets, and two broken hearts.

An interpreter (Nicole Kidman) working in U.N. accidentally gets involved into a planned assassination of a foreign president (a dictator in a way) inside the U.N. building. Finding herself in danger, she asks for the police's help. However, her mysterious past turns herself into a suspect. After she loses her brother, the last family member she's got, she decides to kill the dictator by herself. At last, she puts her gun away, forgiving the dictator and setting herself free because of the police officer who totally understands her grieve and tries his best to protect her from that grieve. The police officer (Sean Pinn) in charge of this case notices that the interpreter didn't tell the whole story at the very beginning. He thinks that the secret she was holding has very much to do with the assassination. This man has lost his beloved and runaway wife in a car accident. At first, he doubts her, then, understands her, and finally falls in love with her, although they don't even have a kiss yet. It's more like some kind of fellowship, I guess. In the end, he successfully gets her out of the critical situation, and saves the president's life as well. One of the pleasures for me during watching this film is the development that they gradually open their minds to each other. Basically, I like the story: an interpreter and a cop, a series of unknown secrets, and two broken hearts. Very absorbing. And I think Nicole does a pretty good job in this film (much better than my expectation). As for Sean, I like him but, to be a middle-aged cop like this, I think he has too much facial expression. Too much acting in short. (No offense, Sean's fans!)

Along Came Polly

It's a romantic comedy about how a rick assessor (Reuben Feffer) who always lives his life on schedule changes his life attitude. He gets married as he planned, but is cuckolded during the honeymoon, which is not a part of his plan.

One day he runs into Polly Prince (Jennifer Aniston) , one of his classmates in junior high school. They were both the UN deligate modal at that time. He decides to date Polly for a change, not noticing that her life style is totally different from his.

The tatoo on her hips means more than a tatoo. In fact, they are not only different from each other in food and drinking, but also in their attidude toward life. Many funny things happen, of course. It's a comedy afterall.

What attracts me more is the character, Polly Prince. For me, she's kind of a symbol of an carefree, seize-the-day way of living. She is so energetic and enjoys herself so much that you won't blame her for her carelessness. It takes courage to follow one's inclination as Polly does. Most people are confined themselves to earthly values, and are set intentionally or unintentionally by the society, the family, or the inadequate childhood. I hate to say that but yes, I am one of those.

Before Sunrise

Jesse (Ethan Hawke) meets Celine (Julie Delpy) on the train, just like that.

Coming from different countries, heading for different directions, they decide to get off the train in the middle of the way and share a single day with each other.

They enjoy their little trip and the mutual company with each other. Before the sun rises, they've got the special moment that can't be forgotten by the audiences like me for the rest of their lives.

See you six months later at the same place? No phone numbers, no address, no information to contact with. Basically, they are still strangers to each other. What will happen at that time? Are they going to keep the promise? Well, I don't care that much. I'm truly touched by the two sincere hearts at the moment.

As for the sequel “Before Sunset,” I haven't seen it so far. It really takes courage to continue the story. For me, the story has been pretty much enough

My Best Friend's Wedding

"When you love someone, you have to say it, right there, out loud, or it just passes you by."

Before we get started, let me make myself clear. Here are neither reviews nor criticism. I just enjoy watching movies, especially those which can refresh me from the trivial daily routines.

Let's start with a romantic comedy, "My Best Friend's Wedding." It stars Julia Roberts, one of my favorite actresses. She may not be the most beautiful lady in Hollywood; however, she has got the unique smile that no one else has ever had.

She says, in the movie, "When you love someone, you have to say it, right there, out loud, or it just passes you by."

In the movie, she tried, but it's too late. Some people are afraid of saying it because there are some risks to take-- the risk of losing their freedom, privacy, or perhaps dignity. That's why it is so hard for people to make commitments.

What would you do if your “best friend” were going to marry someone else? That would be a totally tricky situation. I don't think I could do it right.

Strive bravely for what you want and whom you love before it is too late. It's gonna take more courage to heal if you miss the chance
